“We love to go camping, and usually just take a tent or pop-up,” owner Josh Morris tells us. “We are getting older and heard that you can rent your RV through Outdoorsy and have it pay for itself. We tried it, and it’s working!”
Josh and his wife and business partner, Jeanne, were very selective about the RV they purchased. “We wanted an RV that would be successful on the rental platform,” Morris explains. “We wanted something that was a mid-range size, with no slide-out for ease of use during travel. We wanted a sofa and a dinette, with the overhead cabin as a bed.
“We bought this specific [model] thinking it would be the perfect RV to rent out. Not too big to be intimidating, but not too small to handle a larger family.”
Not only that, but the couple also does everything they can to make renting their RV an excellent experience. “We try to make it a whole experience and set our mileage and generator restrictions really high so as not to make people feel like we are nickel and diming,” says Josh. “We include free Wi-Fi and everything you need for your trip. We tell them to bring their clothes and food, and everything else is available. We also offer yard games, tables, and tents at no cost.”
The ultimate goal? “I want our RV to bring as much joy as it brings us,” Josh shares. “To be reliable, so people can experience the amazing opportunity to travel with all the amenities at their fingertips.”
This approach is working out quite well for the Morris family. “We received bookings within a couple days of listing our RV,” recalls Morris. “It was really exciting, and we high-fived for each booking we received. We listed in late March and have earned just under $5K through Outdoorsy already. Our main concern was that demand wasn’t going to be high enough to allow us to at least recoup our costs, but it has exceeded our expectations!”
Clearly, Josh and Jeanne are doing quite well. So what’s their advice for others considering starting an RV rental business?
Just do it! Your RV is sitting in the driveway when it can be shared with the world. Give it to others and allow them to share in the RV experience! It’s really fun.
