2008 Ford E350
This converted 15 passenger Ford Econoline van is beautifully built into a camper van by BigIslandCampers dot com using precious Koa wood from the island. This van was my home for the first year living in Hawaii, so I've set it up to be efficient and comfortable. She is fully insulated and has a 14-in vent fan / ceiling fan right above the bed that keeps you cool all night long.
Many camper vans that you see you get a kitchen in a box and have to set up the kitchen if you want to make some food. This one is always set up and ready to go with a 2 Burner gas stove and a kitchen sink with a water filter for drinking water. The bed is a full sized memory foam mattress that slides out the back so you can sleep under the stars.
It's the best way to make the most of your time in Hawaii. Where ever you go you are always home, the scenery just changes. Mosquito netting to encompass the entire sleeping area if you want to sleep with the doors open.
The onboard 30 gallon water tank supplies the high pressure water pump for an instant hot water shower and kitchen sink. French press, coffee mugs pots pans, and utensils are all included. Electric refrigerator/freezer is powered by the 200W solar system and independent House Battery.
Medical kit with basic medical supplies, sunburn lotion, and hydrogen peroxide.
Options / add-ons beginner surfboard, boogie boards and fins, snorkeling gear, trecking poles, back pack, beach chairs and umbrella, beach mats, grill, head lamps for lava tubes, umbrella, and rain ponchos.Follow us on IG - @Big Island Campers Cosa è inclusoFresh linens, shower towels, kitchen cookware, plates, utensils, French press. RaccomandazioniTour the island! Go to South point and cliff jump or snorkeling. The stars at night down there are Amazing!!!
Head to Pahoa for Sunday nude beach and drum circles. Volcano national park to see the volcano. Visit Kamana Caves near Hilo where you can hike for hours into the earth down a lava tube. Visit the botanical gardens just north of Hilo. See Akaka falls, Kolekole beach park. Hike Waipio Valley. Visit the cute little town of Hawi at the northern tip of the island. Kapaa State park is a great place to camp, snorkel and whale watch during the winter months. Mahukona is an old harbor that has excellent snorkeling and a huge anchor just out from shore. Be careful of strong currents here though. Tons of beautiful reef fish. Next stop is Puako another good place to camp and snorkel. I have a map in the van on the counter that shows all this and much much more. I will send you pin drops for Google maps of places to camp for free and some of my favorite places to go.Altre cose di cui prendere notaBe respectful of locals and the land. Drive the speed limit, they are not tolerant of speeding and the drivers here are the worst I've ever experienced. Definitely be a defensive driver. You will definitely see people veer to the right hand side of the road to make a left turn, making it impossible to pass them on the right. This is extremely common and traffic on a two-lane highway will come to a halt for someone making a left hand turn across traffic. Occasionally you will come across a one lane bridge the triangles on the pavement on your side of the bridge means that you are supposed to yield to any on coming traffic.
Just because somebody stops and gives you the right of way doesn't mean that it's safe, make sure you look for other traffic before proceeding.
No smoking in the vehicle. If fuel isn't filled when returned, there's a $25 fee charge + the amount of the fuel.

After building my first camper van (Kozy Koa) and living in that while traveling around the island for about 8 months I decided I loved the freedom of living the van life, but I needed to be able to stand up in my van. So I bought a Mercedes Sprinter van that I now live in full time and started renting out Kozy Koa. I loved hearing the stories from my renters about how they loved the van and how much of the island they were able to see. I decided to build another van and we now have added Lil Honu which was designed as a rental so it has some really nice upgrades. I am currently building another van which should be available by November. At least that's the goal. It will have all of the upgrades that Lil Honu has and then some. She's called Da Dolphin.

Dug and his van were a great match for us. The van allowed us to explore the island as we wanted, and we enjoyed always having a home base ready in the evenings. Dug was super helpful and communicative, and he provided us with a list of potential points of interest to help us in our trip planning. He made sure we were familiar with the workings of the van and was always a text away if we had any questions. We would happily rent from him again!

Dug and his Kozy Koa van were exactly what we wanted for our trip to/around the Big Island. Dug was super communicative about our last minute booking, and also gave us a thorough explanation of the van (solar, battery, lighting, shower, etc) as well as including several useful locations to check out/stay. Lastly, , he accommodated our request for an evening return to coordinate with our late flight. The van itself was great - comfortable, roomy and had everything we needed, including beach mats, soft towels, and extras such as a mosquito net and magnets for when we wanted to leave the back doors open to sleep. It drove well, and we liked having an older model that didn’t stand out as a flashy campervan when parked up!
